everbright volunteers together with their children visit "lifeline express" eye-train hospital in shandong
from 8 to 10 august 2014, everbright’s volunteer team and their children visited the cataract patients and medical practitioners of “lifeline express” eye-train hospital in tai’an city, shandong. they had also a gathering with the students in the rural region.
it is everbright’s first parent-child volunteer service for both hong kong and mainland staff. during the 3-day trip, volunteers have deepened their understanding on the services provided by lifeline express which everbright is one of the main sponsors. also, parents and kids can have a real life experience for poverty through the visits to the needy families in mainland china, which inspires the kids to cherish their health and happiness, so as to nurture their kindness to people. it was full of fun and laughter during the trip, both the volunteers and their children enjoyed themselves very much.
as a long term and an important supporting organisation to lifeline express, china everbright charitable foundation has actively supported the charitable development of “lifeline express” throughout all these years.

since 2009, the everbright charitable foundation has sustainably sponsored a number of social service projects including: “the everbright project”, jointly launched with caritas family crisis support centre to provide community services targeting hong kong’s middle class; “project companion – professional social workers in greater china scheme”, jointly established with social workers across borders to train professional social workers in the mainland; “everbright teachers’ heritage discovery tour” organised by hong kong federation of education workers to provide hong kong teachers travelling opportunities to the mainland china cities for experiencing and learning china culture and history, as well as many other charity programmes.

in 1997, with the support from the ministry of health (moh), the ministry of railways and the hong kong and macao affairs office in mainland china, lifeline express hospital eye-train (the eye-train) first embarked on its mission of light into china’s countryside, as a gift to the people of mainland china.
the custom built eye-trains are equipped with the latest medical equipment and eye care technology. each four compartment eye-train consists of a consultation clinic, a sanitization room, two operating theatres, a recovery room (with beds for patients), a multi-function conference room and living quarters for the medical team. the eye-train not only provides free surgical operations for poverty stricken cataract patients, but also facilitates cooperation between ophthalmologists from overseas and mainland china.
