11 june 2013 – academic forum“a new type of great power relationship ”held in washington d.c. and supported by china everbright group, to share his insights on the trans-pacific partnership agreement (tpp) and investing in the pacific.
the event was a non-governmental, non-profit, open forum jointly organized by the party school of the central committee of the chinese communist party (cpc) and the aspen institute as a platform for chinese and american academics to engage in high-level discussions about china-u.s. relations and global affairs. the aim was to increase understanding of the new relationship developing between china and the u.s. and to help promote positive relations between the two superpowers.
the forum followed a recent state visit to the u.s. by chinese president xi jinping. the high-level chinese delegation accompanying xi jinping was led by li jingtian, vice-principal of the party school of the central committee of the cpc, and included fu ying, member of the foreign affairs committee of the people’s republic of china; assistant foreign minister le yucheng; and lt. general liu chengjun, chinese academy of military science director. the u.s. delegation consisted of key people from the world of business and politics, including lieutenant general brent scowcroft, co-chairman of the aspen strategy group and former u.s. national security advisor; u.s. deputy secretary of state william burns; u.s. deputy defense secretary ashton carter; u.s. national security adviser tom donilon; and hyatt hotels corporation executive chairman tom pritzker. the two delegations engaged in intensive two-day discussions conducted in an open and friendly manner,which helped to strengthen the strategic dialogue between the u.s. and china.
