volunteers of china everbright limited participate in msf orienteering competition – “on track to save”
to raise fund for msf and experience the challenge of frontline field workers
three teams of more than 10 volunteers from china everbright limited (“cel”; stock code: 165.hk) participated in medecins sans frontieres (“msf”) orienteering competition – “on track to save” for the first time on 5 march 2017. over hk$10,000 has been raised for the event through china everbright charitable foundation’s sponsorship of the registration fees and donations, to support msf’s relief work responding to catastrophic emergencies.
the competition was held in lamma island, with over 4,600 participants joining the event. the team members started the competition by locating themselves in a short period of time, studied the map and searched for the pre-set control points together. every cel volunteer enjoyed the competition very much and completed the challenge within limited time, attributable to their outstanding team spirit and ongoing group discussions.
orienteering is an outdoor activity requiring high intelligence and physical strength. with the help of a map and compass, participants search for the pre-set control points in an unfamiliar competition site. different routes were chosen according to their own experience, technique and judgment. the winner will be the team who spends the shortest time to find out all control points. msf organised the “msf orienteering competition” since 2002 and is the largest orienteering competition in hong kong for 15 consecutive years. through this competition, msf aims to let the participants experience the challenges faced by msf field workers when they walk through some of the world’s most testing environments to provide medical aid to patients in the front line.
cel is a corporation committed to corporate social responsibility. in the past few years, cel has organised a number of volunteer services including a visit to elderly home, special children care centre, sheltered workshop, supported food angel’s program in preparing the “food angel meals” for the elderlies, as well as had the parent-child visiting program to lifeline express eye-train hospital in shandong, hailongjiang and guiyang. all these activities received good response and support from cel staff. cel will organise similar activities in the future and hope that these volunteer services can provide opportunities for its staff to serve the community in leisure time.
