china everbright charitable foundation volunteer team visits home for elderly

(7 september 2012) china everbright charitable foundation brought a spontaneously formed volunteer team of 20 china everbright limited (“everbright”) employees to the caritas harold h.w. lee care and attention home in shatin in the new territories. the team met seniors living at the home.
 
to prepare for the visit, the everbright volunteer team underwent professional volunteer training from seasoned social workers. the training helped team members to better understand the nature of volunteer jobs; learn and experience the skills needed to interact and communicate with elderly people; and to be aware of the living conditions and common diseases suffered by the elderly in hong kong.
 
in the afternoon, the volunteer team undertook a series of interactive activities with 70 seniors, who are in their eighties, at the home. these included hand exercises, playing balloon passing games and singing classic old songs. many volunteers performed magic shows, which they had learnt especially for the occasion. they had also prepared some living goods as gifts. at a sharing meeting after the visit, volunteers said that they had benefitted a lot from the visit and learned more about the life of the seniors. they brought happiness to the elderly and at the same time experienced a sense of satisfaction from the volunteering, and said they will take part in similar volunteer activities in the future.
 
since its foundation in 2008, china everbright charitable foundation has devoted its resources to contributing to society. through this visit, the company and the well-known caritas family crisis support centre in hong kong were able to promote volunteer training and services. not only did the visit reinforce the company’s social responsibility contribution, but also enabled colleagues and their relatives to experience volunteering. through their contributions and skills, they brought happiness to those in need.
