supports accelerated plans for global investment in pan-entertainment industry

china everbright limited (“cel”, stock code: 165.hk) has announced to strategically cooperate with weiying times, the two parties will develop all - dimensional cooperation in the international film industry. besides, cel announced a joint investment with weiying times, paramount pictures and dreamworks animation in hollywood blockbuster ghost in the shell for a share of the film’s global box office receipts. the deal marks the latest strategic move by cel in the global pan-entertainment industry following earlier investments in iqiyi, shanghai film art academy and yixia tech.
according to research statistics, global box office receipts from international film distribution were estimated at usd33.3 billion in 2016, representing a 9% year-on-year increase and the continuation of an upward trend. china has the world’s highest growth rate for box office receipts with an average annual increase of 21%.
cel, a global leader in cross-border asset management platform, has continued to ramp up its efforts to develop cultural and film industries in recent years through successive investments in the international pan-entertainment sector.

ghost in the shell opened in the us on 31 march and is due for release in china on 7 april. the live-action film, adapted from a classic japanese comic of the same name, stars a-list actress scarlett johansson as well as pilou asbæk, michael pitt and more. it was directed by rupert sanders and produced by avi arad.
